NYCT Resiliency Protection of the Steinway Under the River Tube

This project included installation of electrical isolation flanges along the existing 8-inch sump discharge lines within the Steinway tube - the under-river tunnel connecting Manhattan and Queens on the 7 line.

Additionally, the entire 8-inch pipe system was isolated from its hangers using electrical insulative tape at approximately 1,500 locations. This work was all completed during 53-hour track outages and required close coordination with work train operators, along with knowledge of maneuvering work trains within the tunnel.

Value: $2,900,000

Contractor: Rising Sun Construction
