MTA Design-Build Services for Accessibility Upgrades at Eight Stations, ADA Package 1

As part of the accessibility upgrades, Stirling installed dry manual fire standpipe systems at four of the eight subway stations - New Dorp, Dyckman, Grand, and 149th St. - spread across Queens, The Bronx, Staten Island, and Manhattan.

Installations were completed during normal work hours, as well as under flagging and/or general orders. Our team played a key role in the design progression of the system and in interpretation of the code requirements which mandated several changes from past installations. These were the first ADA contracts to implement air monitoring panels which supervise the integrity of the manual standpipe systems. These panels were also integrated into the Fire Alarm System at each location to ensure that MTA and FDNY are notified in the event of a loss of pressure.

Our team's interaction with various MTA stakeholders was critical in ensuring that work was installed with minimal impact on station appearance and in full compliance with user group standards and expectations.
