MTA C&D ADA 8 Stations (Package 1)
This was Stirling Mechanical’s first significant project. We installed dry manual firestandpipe systems at four of the eight subway stations as part of the accessibility upgrades at New Dorp, Dykman, Grand, and 149th St. Stations. Two of the stations
were above grade and two were below grade while also spread across Queens, The Bronx, Staten Island, and Manhattan.
Installations were completed both on normal work hours as well as under flagging and or general orders. Our team was heavily involved in the design progression of the systems as well as the interpretation of the code requirements which mandated
several changes from past installations. These were the first ADA contracts to implement air monitoring panels to supervise the integrity of the manual standpipe systems. These panels were also integrated into the Fire Alarm system at each location in order to notify MTA and FDNY in the event of a loss of pressure.
Also worth noting is our teams’ interaction with various MTA stakeholders to ensure that work was installed with minimal impacts to station appearance as well as the user groups’ standards and expectations.
